Fall for Arts 2019 brings visual arts to life on Roosevelt Island. On September 28th, murals are created live in three locations as visitors are invited to watch and wonder. New activities added brighten the festival.

Family activities and music spice Southpoint, and Four Freedoms adds Kite Flight for Peace and Human Rights, coinciding with International Peace Day.
New: Friday Kickoff Event at Gallery RIVAA

Yesterday, RIOC juiced to the Fall for Arts 2019 fun by adding a Kickoff Event on Friday, September 27th. It will run from 6:00 to 8:00 at the RIVAA’s 527 Main Street gallery. It’s free.
An exciting solo exhibit, Romanian expressionist Bogdan Matei’s Shapes and Imaginary Objects, fills the walls with color and creativity. Light refreshments and music by community artists, including gallery regulars, the Island Jazz Collaborative, make it a night to remember.
A line up of mural artists is already set to get started on Saturday. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation contributes all the supplies, canvases, paints and brushes.
The event combines performance and traditional arts through the creation of free-standing murals during the Festival. This year, our theme is “EarthLove: Protect, Renew, Grow”.

Fall for Arts 2019
RIOC sought artists or groups to create works that encourage respect for the environment.”
“Each artist/group will paint one of several 6’ high by 8’ long or 6’ high by 16’ long murals outdoors during the festival from 10 AM – 4 PM,” although earlier starts can be arranged.
Along with Fall for Arts original space on the Rivercross Lawn, mural painting adds ideas and color to Southpoint and FDR Four Freedoms Parks.
More than a day…
After participating artists finish their work, murals stay until winter’s approach forces removal several weeks later.
And there’s more…
Early in the Spring, RIOC chooses murals from the festival for an opening at the Motorgate Gallery.
