RIOC released the Fall for Arts music line up for 2019, along with other event details, yesterday. The weather looks great for a well-planned, art-filled Saturday on Roosevelt Island.

From the Rivercross Lawn south, artists transform the landscape with murals, created live. Sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s predicted.

Things start even earlier with a kickoff event, open to all, at Gallery RIVAA on Friday evening. There’ll be live music, light refreshments and artwork by Bogdan Matei.

But Saturday is when Fall for Arts 2019 comes alive.

Fall for Arts Music

The Roni Ben-Hur Brazilian Quintet kicks off the live entertainment at 1:00 with their a “warm, glowing style of Jazz,” says RIOC.

At 2:00 Reggae, Pop, and Afrobeat fusion band Flux and the Do Good Family, featuring local residents, make music at the Meditation Steps.

Afro-Cuban band Ritmosis closes the show at 4:00 with upbeat Latin Jazz & Soul.

While your feet aren’t taping…

Murals build live and in color while Four Freedoms Park invites all to the joys of kite-making and flying. Kite Flight for Peace and Human Rights repeats an annual event coordinated with U.N. Week.

Southpoint Park, where more murals develop, is busy with family friendly activities from the Garden Club, iDig2Learn and the Girl Scouts.

About twenty years ago, there was Harbor Police activity near the water, just south of the subway entrance. At the time, no one really thought of it as a pier, though technically there was a small boardwalk there. Of course it wasn’t a pier. A pier implies intention.
