Starting Thursday, December 7th, you can take home some great art from our local artists at Gallery RIVAA, 527 Main Street. Affordable Art lasts just four days but brings a chance to win art as well as loosen up your purse strings for it.
The Roosevelt Island Daily News
Affordable Art is, for art lovers, a chance to own original, one-of-a-kind artwork, and from artists who are neighbors that need the help.
A wide variety of works, bargain-priced and ready to take home, will be spread around the gallery from Thursday through Sunday. Wonderful for you, but also a holiday gift that can’t be duplicated.
As a special bonus, RIVAA is also offering raffle tickets to anyone who stops by, and wait until you see what you can win.
Great Art for Free

Ana-Maria Daranga – watercolor – View from Montmartre Paris – 17″x13″
And from Roosevelt Island’s favorite pastelist…

Georgette Sinclair – pastel – From Canadian Rockies – 4.5″x7″
Tony Vita’s artworks seem like Giorgio de Chirico, Yves Tanguy, Marvel Comics, Salvatore Dali and something from science fiction assembled in a glorious mix.

Tony Vita – digital – La Femme au Parasol Rêve

From our favorite colorist, Toshiko Kitano Groner – oil on canvas – Orange & Lime – 10″x8″
Groner’s solo exhibit, Arrangements, is on view now at the Octagon Gallery.
Some of the world’s best art is textural as well as visible, managed into shapes with iconic force.

Victoria Thorson – ceramic – Ursula – 29″x10″
Finally…
You can win any of the works shown above just by registering for the raffle, but come to the gallery and see much more.

The Line That Didn’t Land
I stood in the back of Good Shepherd Chapel on the evening of April 15, 2026, at the Steam Plant Demolition Town Hall, watching people adjust scarves and jackets before the meeting began. Benjamin Jones, President and CEO of RIOC, thanked us for attending and, without a pause, said he was “pleased to host tonight’s town hall on the city’s demolition of its steam plant.” The demolition, in other words, was not up for discussion.
