“The large multi-page insert for today’s NY Daily News 2024 Queens Business Expo Guide has this big cover picture of our Tram headed to and coming from Manhattan… with a view of Manhattan,” a reader wrote.

The Roosevelt Island Daily News
That was on Tuesday. I was concerned enough that I went outside immediately. I was relieved to find the Tram operating normally – from one Manhattan island to another. It had not been re-routed into Queens, and no extension had been built overnight.

But if the Daily News said so, I should make sure. I boarded a cabin.
It was a little disorienting because nobody shoved me aside in the rush for seating or TikTok video positions. And I could breathe freely. Not a single backpack slammed against me.

But we landed safely – on Roosevelt Island – despite the strange circumstances.
What’s wrong with this picture?
Being a Roosevelt Islander and naturally suspicious of plots, I remain unconvinced that something nefarious isn’t happening.
Remember how the Redistricting Commission tried lifting our solid rock and putting it back down somewhere in Astoria? We caught them in time. Fortunately.
And despite the vocal protests, the MTA still says we’re a tiny artery, easily ignored, in the Queens bus redesign.
Stay vigilant, friends. You just never know.
Still Searching: Transparency Delayed at RIOC
New York’s Freedom of Information Law rests on a basic principle: government records belong to the public unless an agency can identify a lawful reason to withhold them. For Roosevelt Island residents, that right matters because RIOC controls public land, infrastructure, transportation, contracts and development without functioning as a locally elected government.
