A Main Street Stabbing Reported This Time As RIOC Changes

RIOC this morning reported a Main Street stabbing last night inside Bread & Butter Market. The crime happened at 9:40. But as concerning as that is, the state agency’s opening up with the community is a breath of fresh air. Roosevelt Islanders can now rely on factual accounting, not gossip and rumors.

The Main Street Stabbing

“On Thursday, May 4th at approximately 9:40 PM a person was assaulted with a knife inside the deli located at 579 Main Street,” a RIOC’s advisory said.

“NYPD and PSD responded quickly to the location where they found a victim who was stabbed multiple times. The victim was taken to Cornell Hospital in stable condition.

“Subjects were unidentified by the deli workers and fled the scene prior to NYPD/PSD arrival in a dark Jeep Grand Cherokee that was parked in front of the deli.

“At this time, PSD & NYPD reports indicate this was a targeted incident and not a random act of violence.”

While voluntary public reporting may signal a new openness from RIOC, it also may signal NYPD involvement. Either way, residents will welcome a turn toward transparency.
