By Ericka O’Connell, The Roosevelt Island Daily
Hey there, friends! It’s that time again — when our days feel a little shorter, the air a little crisper, and the clocks need a quick adjustment. Daylight Saving Time ends this Sunday, November 3, at 2:00 AM, so don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before heading to bed Saturday night.
What This Means
We’re “falling back,” which gives us one extra hour of sleep — always a welcome gift! But it also means that sunset will arrive earlier in the evening, making our afternoons feel shorter and our walks along the promenade a bit dimmer sooner than we’d like.
A Few Friendly Reminders
- Adjust your clocks manually on Saturday night if they don’t reset automatically.
- Check your smoke detectors — it’s a great habit to test batteries each time we change the clocks.
- Plan for darker evenings. Be sure to wear reflective clothing or carry a light if you’re out and about after work.
- Enjoy that morning sunshine! The earlier sunrise makes those early ferry rides or walks through Southpoint Park a little brighter.
Why It Matters for Our Island
With earlier sunsets, Roosevelt Island’s paths and streets can get darker faster, especially near the parks and along the waterfront. Let’s look out for one another — slow down when driving or biking, and give a friendly wave to neighbors adjusting to the time change too.
So this weekend, cozy up, enjoy that extra hour of rest, and get ready for the cozier half of the season. We’ll be lighting up the island soon enough with holiday cheer — but first, let’s make sure we’re all on the same (clock) page!
