A Celebration in the Plaza
Friends, what a scene it was this evening at Good Shepherd Plaza! As the sun dipped lower and the air filled with that familiar late-August buzz, our community gathered for the Back-to-School Giveaway—and it was more than just backpacks this year.
Smiles stretched ear to ear as kids not only picked up free school supplies but also enjoyed free ice cream and snacks. It was the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer and the promise of a new school year ahead.
Who Made It Happen
This event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of:
- RIOC (Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation)
- PSD (Public Safety Department)
- Roosevelt Island Disabled Association (RIDA)
Together, they brought more than just supplies. They brought joy, comfort, and community spirit to the plaza.
Why It Matters
Moments like these remind us what makes Roosevelt Island so special. It’s not just about the school year starting strong—it’s about neighbors coming together, sharing laughter over ice cream, and showing our kids that this is a community that has their back.
As the last cones melted and the plaza quieted down, it felt like a fitting send-off to summer. Our children walk into September prepared and supported, and our community walks away reminded of the beauty of coming together.
