A Warm Welcome Back to School
Friends, as summer winds down and September creeps closer, our community is once again stepping up to make sure Roosevelt Island kids are ready for a bright new school year. The Back-to-School Giveaway is set for Friday, August 29 at 5:00 PM at Good Shepherd Plaza, right in the heart of Main Street.
Organizers ask everyone to arrive no earlier than 4:30 PM so things can run smoothly and fairly for all.
What to Expect
- Free Backpacks & Supplies: Students will receive the tools they need to start strong.
- Community Care: A tradition rooted in kindness and giving back.
- Location: The plaza just outside the historic Chapel of the Good Shepherd.
Why It Matters
Events like this are more than giveaways. They remind us of the strength of our little island community—neighbors helping neighbors and making sure every child starts the year with confidence. The Red Bus is one of Roosevelt Island’s most popular public services, and for good reason. For residents near the subway and Tram, it may be a convenience. For residents at Manhattan Park, the Octagon, Coler and the northern WIRE buildings, it can be the connection that makes the rest of the Island accessible.
