Neighbors, there’s a major proposal on the table that could shape the future of Times Square, and the public has a chance to speak up. The New York State Gaming Commission is inviting community voices into the conversation about the proposed Caesars Palace Casino with a virtual Public Scoping Session scheduled for tomorrow night, Wednesday, May 28 at 5:00 p.m. This includes a Public Comment Session on the Times Square Casino proposal.

Short Notice, But Not Too Late
State Senator Liz Krueger raised concerns about the short notice given for this meeting. If you can’t attend the virtual session, don’t worry, written comments will be accepted until Tuesday, June 11 at 5:00 p.m.

What’s at Stake?
Senator Krueger emphasized that this is just the beginning of a lengthy casino siting process. For a project to move forward, it must:
- Complete all environmental entitlements under SEQR
- Secure a two-thirds vote of approval from its Community Advisory Committee
- Meet a final submission deadline of September 30, 2025
A Clear Stance
Senator Krueger isn’t mincing words, she’s firmly opposed to any casino development in her district or elsewhere in the city. “They can be incredibly addictive, exploit those least able to afford to lose their money, and redirect people’s disposable income away from other activities,” she wrote.
