The basic storyline follows Emma Nolan, an Indiana high school student who dreams of attending her senior prom with her girlfriend Alyssa Greene. But when Emma comes out publicly as queer, she finds herself facing discrimination from her school and community.

That’s when four down-on-their-luck Broadway actors decide to join forces with Emma in order to save the day. Together they take on bullies, small-town politics and ultimately fight for the right of all young people to express themselves freely.

The original Broadway cast featured some of Broadway’s biggest stars including Tony Award nominees Beth Leavel and Christopher Sieber as well as Angie Schworer, Josh Lamon and Caitlin Kinnunen. (See the MSTDA cast here.)

But it didn’t stop there; The Prom also features an exciting score from Tony Award winners Chad Beguelin and Bob Martin who wrote much of the acclaimed musical comedy The Drowsy Chaperone.

Jacqueline Lucid directs for MSTDA, supported by this creative team.

The show received rave reviews from critics, audiences and theatergoers alike with its vibrant mix of delightful comedy, heartwarming romance and inspiring themes of acceptance.

It was nominated for seven Tony Awards including Best Musical and Best Score while also winning two Drama Desk Awards.

So if you’re looking for a feel-good night featuring all the glitz, glamour and drama that only a Broadway musical can provide, then get your tickets now for The Prom!

With its charming characters and uplifting message it’s sure to have you dancing in your seat all night long!
