The MTA’s Holiday Nostalgia Trains first made their debut in 1991, and they’ve been a holiday tradition ever since. These special trains feature vintage cars from the 1940s and 1950s, which have been decorated with wreaths, garlands, and other holiday adornments. Each train also has a holiday-themed name—such as “The Candy Cane Express” or “The Frosty Flier”—and each car has its own unique name as well.
Taking the Ride
Riding on one of the MTA’s Holiday Nostalgia Trains is like taking a step back in time. The cars are cozy and intimate, and they’re equipped with comfortable bench seating and overhead fans (for those who get a little claustrophobic).
And of course, no trip down memory lane would be complete without some holiday music to set the mood. On board the Nostalgia Train, you’ll be treated to a mix of classic holiday tunes and more recent favorites.
If you’re looking for a fun and festive activity this holiday season, check out the MTA’s Holiday Nostalgia Trains! For more information, including a schedule of dates and times when the trains will be running, visit their website.
