The truth is that New York City’s crime rate has been on the decline for years. It’s now lower than it has been in decades. In 1990, there were 2,245 murders in the city. Last year, there were just 485. That’s a decrease of 80%. Robberies have decreased by 75%, and felony assaults have decreased by 65%.
