If you’re like us, you’ve had food delivered more than ever before. The pandemic’s left us stuck with meals at home on days when we used to ramble around town. But there’s some consolation with great offerings from places like the café @ Cornell Tech.
By David Stone
We’ve been disappointed with the quality and accuracy of the food we ordered.
Once, a pizza arrived, just a little late, but alas, it wasn’t even ours. For semi-vegetarians like us, it was fatally flawed, and we can only guess how our pizza landed with the meat eaters who got it.
Five Years-Just a Beginning for the Cornell Tech Café
So, we were pleasantly surprised when our order from the café arrived on time for our enjoyment before watching the Bills end the Colts season. DoorDash made it easy, but they can only deliver what the cooks hand over.
…and what the cooks handed over was perfect.
The café at Cornell Tech’s reputation for innovative meals marks a change for Roosevelt Island where “same old, same old” is the convention. Customizable flatbread pizza and sandwiches make every lunch a shot at something different.
There are also snacks, a wide choice of beverages and the famous Cornell Ice Cream.
To each, his or her own: Our lunch from the café @ Cornell Tech…
A couple that doesn’t eat meat, we were surprised at finding three sandwiches that met our limitations. That’s a rarity, whether eating inside or out.
We both picked the same thing: a black bean sandwich on a tasty jalapeño roll, splashed down with a Brew Doctor Kombucha.
You already know it was delivered on time, and I can add that the sandwiches were delicious as well as surprisingly generous in size.
And there was one more thing. Or two, really. Unexpectedly, slices of pickle and stacks of potato chips filled out the carefully packaged container.
We’ll do this again. And again, and we recommend you try them too.
