Dear neighbors, if your usual stroll or jog takes you down the East Promenade, you’ll want to take note of a brief detour.

What’s Happening?

Beginning Wednesday, July 16th, and running through Wednesday, July 23rd, a section of the East Promenade, from Firefighters Field to Blackwell Park, will be closed to the public. The temporary closure will allow for continued construction work at Commons East, a new development shaping up along our beloved waterfront.

Quick Details:

  • Closed Area: East Promenade between Firefighters Field and Blackwell Park
  • Dates: July 16 through July 23, 2025
  • Reason: Ongoing work at Commons East
  • Reopening: As soon as safely possible

We know how much this stretch means to many, whether it’s your scenic route to work, your dog’s favorite sniffing trail, or simply a space to pause and enjoy the view. RIOC assures us the closure is necessary to maintain safety and support progress at the Commons East site, and they’re working to minimize disruption.

Thank You for Your Patience

As always, our community’s understanding makes all the difference. While it’s never fun to lose a portion of our promenade, this short-term inconvenience is paving the way for longer-term improvements and a more vibrant public space.

We’ll keep you posted on any updates and in the meantime, let’s help each other navigate the detour with patience and a neighborly smile.

It didn’t feel intentional, but it struck me as odd precisely because it came from something prepared. Lydia Tang gently corrected her, noting that Wade was, in fact, a member of the committee. Wade met the moment with grace, or perhaps she simply wasn’t bothered by it.
