Meeting Details

Open to the Public
As required by the New York State Open Meetings Law, this meeting is open to the public. That means any of us can attend to observe and listen as the board discusses matters impacting our community. It’s a great opportunity to stay informed and engaged with the decisions shaping Roosevelt Island.

Remote Participation
In line with Public Officers Law § 103-A, it is expected that some board members will join the meeting remotely via videoconference. A webcast link will be made available so that everyone, whether attending in person or tuning in from home, can follow along.

Why It Matters
RIOC Board meetings are where many of the decisions that affect our daily lives are made. From park improvements and transportation updates to community programs and infrastructure projects, these sessions give us a window into the workings of our island’s governance.

Call to Action
We encourage all our neighbors to attend, either in person or online. Your awareness, presence, and voice are vital to keeping Roosevelt Island the vibrant, connected place we all love.

Closing
Let’s show up, stay informed, and continue shaping our island together.

Before the Door Closed

In one meeting, RIOC showed that procedure could be used to bless a contested appointment, and then used again to keep a resident-safety resolution from reaching the floor.

The May 14 RIOC board meeting began with public concern over the steam plant and ended with two votes that revealed more than any report could. Some meetings announce themselves by what is said. This one announced itself by what the room permitted to move and what it stopped before it could breathe.
