An appeal from Manhattan Community Board 8 Roosevelt Island Rep. Paul Krikler…

“Come and support the Priority Boarding Resolution on Wednesday, January 15th at 630pm. Members of the public get to speak first so you don’t have to hang around all evening. You are welcome to come in person (Marymount) but it’s 100% fine to do this by zoom.

“We need a ton of people to show up and speak for 30-60 seconds each to persuade the Full CB8 Board to pass our resolution.”

Make your voice heard

Important Note: The resolution comes up under “Committee Reports” in the agenda. That’s where Paul will introduce the Priority Boarding Resolution for full board approval.

However, you need not wait for that. Once you register your interest, you get to speak in the Public session at the very start of the meeting. BUT YOU MUST REGISTER.

“You need to sign up to speak ahead of time. Here is the form: https://www.cb8m.com/event/33814/

Turnout matters. A strong showing for Roosevelt Island will forcefully position the full CB8 board toward approval.

What’s Next

CB8 supports and answers to the Borough President Mark Levine who, in turn, is guided on how to deal with RIOC. Assembly Member Rebecca Seawright is already firmly behind priority boarding for the Tram. More muscle can only in pushing RIOC to do the right thing.

Be there.

In one meeting, RIOC showed that procedure could be used to bless a contested appointment, and then used again to keep a resident-safety resolution from reaching the floor.

The May 14 RIOC board meeting began with public concern over the steam plant and ended with two votes that revealed more than any report could. Some meetings announce themselves by what is said. This one announced itself by what the room permitted to move and what it stopped before it could breathe.
