The Roosevelt Island Daily News

RIOC Public Safety officers stood by while EMS workers aided the victim.
I got the news just after boarding the Tram at Second Avenue. On stalled subway trains, the MTA announced news that someone had been struck by an F Train on Roosevelt Island. As the cabin lifted for its glide across the East River, I began watching for activity on the Island ahead.
Enough vehicles to suggest a much greater emergency clustered from the subway station south, halfway to the Tram Plaza.
Landing, we exited into a crowd of people seeking an alternative route home. Impressively, PSD teamed with Tram workers, keeping congestion to a minimum, moving everyone along.
The news was still raw with few details. But despite all the emergency vehicles, there was a sense of calm.
A Man Struck by an F Train
Although the subway station was shut down, some people were still exiting. A few milled around, but the victim was already being stabilized inside an ambulance.

The F Train struck a man. He could be glimpsed inside the ambulance as EMS workers hovered over him. He had survived.
NYPD and FDNY worked quickly, reopening the station in less than an hour. By then, a long line of people hoping to catch a Q102 bus off Roosevelt Island stretched past the Commons.
After the Accident, some ironic humor
I had to laugh as I walked home. My cat was hungry, and there was no more news. Things were back to normal. But then…
“The Roosevelt Island F Train Station is currently closed due to police activity,” a RIOC Advisory read. “Please consider using other mass transit options and expect delays on your evening commute.”
“Due to police activity…?” Really?
This was 4:38. It was nearly an hour after the incident. Comically, it was at roughly the same time as the subway reopened.
A man survived a potentially tragic incident. And RIOC was still RIOC.
As details about who, why and how this happened are released, The Daily will update.
A Job With a Predictable Ending
The role looks stable from the outside. A President and CEO is appointed. A contract is approved. A salary is set.
