Following numerous reports of animals, including dogs, apparently poisoned in Riverwalk Commons, RIOC reached out to the NYC Department of Environment Conservation. DEC asks for your help in identifying the cause.

RIOC Statement on The Recent Animal Poisonings
As we all know, there have been some reports of sick animals around the commons, particularly in the area around Duane Reade. In response, RIOC has contacted the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to investigate possible toxin exposure. The DEC in turn has suggested we share with the community how to report these incidents directly to them.

If anyone believes their pet has been exposed to a toxin, we’re asking that they:
- Complete the attached NYC Bureau of Pesticides Complaint Submittal Form with as much information as possible and send the completed form to: pesticidesR2@dec.ny.gov.
- DEC asked that they please include any evidence, such as videos, pictures, or blood work performed by a vet.
- Contact PSD and file an incident report. This will help alert the corporation to the incident quickly and allow us to follow up with any outside agencies using proper documentation.
RIOC has also reached out to all building managers on the island to remind them that they must comply with DEC guidelines if they are planning to use any pesticides or herbicides on their properties.
The health and safety of our island residents, including our four-legged friends, are of paramount importance. We take these reports seriously and will continue to monitor the situation closely.
“I Can Ask”
Chair Fay Christian opened the Operations Advisory Committee on February 12th, reading out member names from a prepared sheet that omitted Melissa Wade. It didn’t feel intentional, but it struck me as odd precisely because it came from something prepared. Lydia Tang gently corrected her, noting that Wade was, in fact, a member of the committee. Wade met the moment with grace, or perhaps she simply wasn’t bothered by it.
