Roosevelt Island Tree Lighting 2019

Start

The Roosevelt Island Tree Lighting for 2019 headlines a holiday event on Friday December 6th, RIOC announced. Treats and music kickoff at 7:00 on the Rivercross Lawn.

In 2017, RIOC moved the seasonal celebration across the street from its longtime home at Blackwell House. Since then, it grew into something more like a one-day winter fest.

Last year, Main Street Theatre & Dance Alliance organized caroling at the subway, welcoming neighbors home with songs. This year, they’re expected to repeat but in costume for their musical, A Christmas Carol.

A holiday tree and large, decorated gift boxes transform the lawn.

For 2019, RIOC promises “a night of holiday music and celebration.”

The Funktion band joins island community performers with hot beverages, warm cookies, raffle prizes and goodie bags completing the fun.

Main Street Theatre and Dance Alliance executive director Kristi Towey confirmed that her group will again entertain. Last year, they sang carols at the subway as Islanders came home from work.

In 2018, MST&DA organized carolers at the subway station. Will they do the same for the Roosevelt Island Tree Lighting 2019?

For the kids, “a special guest from the North Pole” brings a whimsical end to the event.

Roosevelt Island tree lighting for 2019 follows the national Rockefeller Center happening on December 4th.

Locally, it’s a more intimate party where everyone joins in. Families sing along, warmed by hot chocolate and cookies kept warm.

RIOC invites everyone, and we hope to see you there.
