Hello, friends. As September 11 approaches, our community will once again pause to gather in memory and reflection. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) invites us all to stand together for this year’s 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. It is a moment to honor lives lost, acknowledge resilience, and lean into the strength we find in one another.

The ceremony will be held at the 9/11 Memorial Plaque located beneath the Roosevelt Island Tram. For many of us, this plaque is part of our daily walk, a quiet marker that holds powerful meaning in our neighborhood.

Details

  • What: 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
  • When: Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 8:30 AM
  • Where: 9/11 Memorial Plaque, under the Roosevelt Island Tram
  • Who: Hosted by RIOC, with participation from our local community

Why It Matters
Though the years continue to pass, the significance of September 11 remains present. Some neighbors lived through the events directly, while others know them through stories and remembrance. What unites us is our commitment to never forget, and to hold space for healing together.

Please join us on the morning of September 11. Bring a neighbor, a friend, or simply your presence. Together we’ll remember, reflect, and stand as a community of compassion and resilience.

Friends, the tram towers overhead, the city hums around us, but for a few moments on this day we will be still together. Let us meet at 8:30 AM and honor the memory of those we lost, and the strength we continue to share.

The Votes, the Conflicts, and the Sudden Exit of Margie Smith and Fay Christian

Rivercross privatization was enabled in 2010. This matters now because the same governance structures that allowed Rivercross to privatize without formal conflict controls are still in place. The same public authority oversees land leases, settlements, and redevelopment decisions that affect every resident on Roosevelt Island today.
