Neighbors, it’s almost that magical time of year again when the leaves start to turn and our community gathers on the Meditation Lawn for one of Roosevelt Island’s most beloved traditions: the Fall for Arts Festival.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of the festival, and it promises to be as vibrant and inspiring as ever. With themes of “Freedom of Fear” and “Freedom to Imagine”, artists, families, and friends are invited to celebrate creativity in every form.

When and Where

  • Date: Saturday, September 13 (Rain date: September 14)
  • Location: Meditation Lawn

What to Expect

From 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the lawn will be alive with color, sound, and joy. Here’s a taste of what’s in store:

  • Live Mural Painting: Watch artists transform blank panels into imaginative works of art, right before your eyes.
  • Music and Performance:
    • Jazzy Jam Session at Blackwell Plaza (11:15 AM–12:00 PM, 12:30 PM–1:15 PM)
    • MSDTA Community Drum Circle led by Brazilian artist Pena Verde (12:00 PM)
    • Jazz Concert with the Marianne Solivan Quartet at Roosevelt Island Library Plaza (2:45 PM–4:15 PM)
    • Hispanic Heritage Month Sing-Along and Dance with Amalgamated Music (3:00 PM–5:00 PM)
  • Family Fun: Island Kids and Girl Scouts will lead hands-on activities for children.
  • Local Flavors and Vendors: Food stands and community organizations will round out the celebration.

Why It Matters

The Fall for Arts Festival is more than just a day of fun. It’s a celebration of imagination, resilience, and connection. The themes, freedom from fear and the courage to imagine, speak to the creative spirit that binds our island community together.

As neighbors, we are lucky to enjoy a festival that welcomes everyone, from long-time residents to first-time visitors, to share in the joy of making and experiencing art.

A Note from the Heart

Friends, this is the kind of event that makes Roosevelt Island feel like home. Pack a blanket, invite your loved ones, and join us on the Meditation Lawn. Let’s celebrate art, friendship, and the beauty of fall—together.
