While a slapdash, faint-hearted and belated Roosevelt Island Day promotion tumbles toward Saturday, energetic groups pull together a Health & Wellness Fair that’s truly community-driven. The event is on June 15th in Good Shepherd Plaza from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Two dynamic groups dedicated to serving Roosevelt Islanders teamed up. The Carter Burden Network and the Roosevelt Island Disabled Association paired resources, bringing an impressive roster of services to Roosevelt Island on June 15th.

Information tables will fill Good Shepherd Plaza while popular local residents Jax Schott and Barbara Parker take turns demonstrating learnable fitness skills. New York Road Runners sends Grace and Sid who will teach stretching and strengthening for all ages.
Credit in advance goes to the CBN/RI Older Adults Center’s Yulisa Santana, a recent Women of Distinction honoree, who did most of the recruiting and organizing.
We can always gain from a gathering of resources like this, especially when well-organized and presented in a community-aware way.
Unequal Bargains
On June 18, the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation’s Real Estate Development Advisory Committee gathered to discuss ground leases, the master retail lease, and the ten additional years being offered under the Island’s master lease. Howard L. Polivy, the committee’s chair, opened the meeting as a longtime host shows guests through a familiar house, pointing out the furniture as if it had never moved an inch.
