Deborah Julian’s Coming This Fall, a Toronto Fine Art Print, catches the downtown spirit of sports, summer and expectation.
“We flew to Toronto for the annual jazz festival, especially to see Freddy Cole, Nat’s younger, much less known brother. In the afternoon, I took my camera out to see what was interesting in a different urban landscape. Taken down to human scale, it’s not the tall structures or the glut of advertising that matters but how we see ourselves in relationship to the city.” — Street Photographer Deborah Julian
“Coming This Fall – Toronto, Canada” is a narrative photograph about an individual in a culture awash in advertising. A young man’s stature is diminished by the billboard-sized heads of hockey players that dominate the sidewalk.
Toronto is exciting, with spirited crowds adding energy. It fairs better than most American cities, which are often in decline. Like American cities though, celebrity culture threatens to reduce individuals to overwhelmed observers.
